Key Features
Overview :
The Highfield was built in 1885 as two private houses and subsequently converted with relatively few changes into this charming and imposing detached hotel which is full of fascinating features, of which the Victorians were famous. These include some lovely balconies and turrets as well as the converted chapel which is now one of the hotel's most popular rooms. The property is arranged to take maximum advantage of some wonderful southerly views out across the minature golf course, Crow Park, The Theatre by The Lake and across Derwentwater to the Borrowdale Valley, making The Highfield a visitor destination in itself.
Location :
Keswick is the only town in the Lake District National Park and for that reason alone it is a great place to live and work. It is situated between Derwentwater and Bassenthwaite Lake which makes it a focus for visitors who come to enjoy the wonderful Lakeland scenery and many outstanding walks. This part of the North Lakeland area enjoys a particularly long season, aided in part by its easy access from the M6 Motorway and the A66 Trans-Pennine route. Events such as the Mountain Festival, Literary and Film Weeks as well as the Award-Winning Theatre by The Lake and the three-week Keswick Convention, combine to attract business on an all yearround basis.
The Property :
The Highfield is a most handsome detached property constructed of Lakeland stone and under a pitched slate roof. The accommodation is laid out on lower ground, ground and two upper floors.
Public Areas :
Attractive porch entrance. All of the public rooms on the ground floor are arranged to capitalise on the hotel's dramatic views. These include a comfortably furnished residents' lounge with its feature bay window, reception/bar lounge with French doors to a delightful veranda. Restaurant, usually laid for 40, is contained in three separate areas and has a delightful bay window and French doors to the veranda.
