A selection of listed barns set within the heart of the Essex countryside. The proposal was to turn the barns into a development of 5 luxury homes ranging in size. The intent was to design a series of sympathetic interventions, carefully curating the interiors to have minimal impact on the listed status of the site, its setting and unique visual appearance to the rest of the open countryside. Each barn was designed individually to enhance its own particular qualities and the interiors to delicately touch and match the existing intricate timber frames of the barns.
Nos. 55, 56 and 57 New Street, Chelmsford (collectively known as ‘Maynetrees’) is a Grade II listed building which formerly served as judges lodgings for the nearby courtrooms.
