Construction has started on Weston Homes’ new MMC factory in Braintree, Essex.
The new 137,000 sq ft facility will sit alongside an existing MMC (modern methods of construction) facility, with a combined production line hoping to deliver 4,000 homes per year.
British Offsite will also sell both interior and exterior components to housebuilders, builders and contractors in the sector, as well as its parent company Weston Group.
According to the firm, its light gauge steel panel assembly line will be the most advanced in Europe, to be operated by 80 people. The £6 million production line is being supplied by Swedish Firm Randek AB.
Shaun Weston, managing director of British Offsite, said: “We are pleased to have started construction of our new build-off-site manufacturing and distribution centre at Horizon 120 in Braintree which will form a key part of our strategic expansion plans for British Offsite.
This new state-of-the-art facility will be one of the largest of its kind within the UK property industry, with one of the most advanced light-gauge steel assembly lines in Europe, meaning we can deliver precise products more quickly for our customers.”
British Offsite was launched in 2021 with £35 million investment from Weston Homes, who reported a fivefold increase in profit to £2.9 million and increased turnover from £177 million to £213 million year-on-year, though both figures are pre-tax and are still below pre-pandemic levels.
The housebuilder currently has a development pipeline totalling a £2.1 billion GDV, across 20 sites bringing over 7,500 new homes.
