Time for Action on Dorset Development Sites Call
Posted by Greenslade Taylor Hunt on 6th December 2024 -
Dorset Council has announced the opening of its ‘Call for Sites 2024’, but the timeframe is brief – so a speedy response is vital.
This will represent the first stage in the preparation of a new Dorset Council Local Plan, which will ultimately set policies to guide new development across the county. It will also allocate specific sites for development.
By initiating a ‘Call for Sites’, the council is inviting landowners and developers to identify land as being available, suitable and deliverable for housing, employment or mixed-use developments. Submitted sites will then be assessed by the council and could be selected for allocation in the emerging Local Plan. In most cases suitable sites should be located within or adjoining the built-up area of a town or village.
Sites previously submitted to any previous Dorset Council Call for Sites should not be resubmitted unless there have been material changes, such as alterations in site extent or intended use.
To clarify, only sites submitted during the ‘Call for Sites’ process are likely to be considered for allocation. Developers and landowners are therefore advised to ensure that relevant sites are submitted for consideration.
The deadline for ‘Call for Sites’ submissions is 20th December 2024. Full details are available here: https://www.dorsetcouncil.gov.uk/news/dorset-council-looking-for-land-as-it-launches-call-for-sites-2024-.
