The Future of the Built Environment

For this month’s content calendar blog, we are looking to the future of the built environment.

What does it look like? With massive advances possible in technology, materials, automation, relationships, processes, diversity and countless other facets, it is impossible to know exactly what the next industrial revolution may look like.

Within this blog, we will look at what those changes might mean for the wider industry and economy as a whole, and how your business can take advantage of these adaptations to get ahead of your competitors and stay ahead for many years to come.

Providing a visionary look at the challenges facing the built environment, Barbour ABI supported by the CIOB, are bringing you a set of eight articles written by Analyst and Commentator, Brian Green.

The Recreative Construction series contains insight on:

  • Three major forces that will shape the built environment over the next 20 years: digital technologies, climate change, and demographic shifts
  • Analysis of critical long-term forces and how they might reshape the future of the built environment
  • Complex challenges that face the construction industry in a post-pandemic world
  • Essential background and context that help to recognise potential fault lines that lie within the wider construction sector

The thing which makes these eight articles more important now than this time last year, is that they focus on the critical long-term forces at play and how they might reshape our built environment.

Chief Economist at Barbour ABI, Tom Hall, comments on the series. He states that “Brian Green’s series of articles is a timely contribution: drawing the threads together, outlining the issues and suggesting a set of principles that will lead to the best possible outcomes. Ultimately, we need a built environment that works for people.

We all have an interest to ensure what we build today delivers the right built environment for us, our children and our children’s children. Let’s take that opportunity.”
