It’s taken three years of careful planning, redesigns and lots of hard work from the whole Powells team, but finally late in July we proudly completed the prestigious renovation of The Falcon Hotel.

Situated in the beautiful countryside of Northamptonshire, the 10,500-acre Castle Ashby Estate, which is owned by Lord Northampton, is home to a Grade II listed former Coaching Inn built in 1594. In need of restoration and extension to transform into a contemporary yet traditional country retreat, Powells were set the task of delivering the clients vison for a place where guests can ‘Rest, Renew & Restore’.

The Falcon Reimagined

With works at The Falcon Hotel beginning in early 2018, this renovation gave Powells the opportunity to draw on all our resources to deliver a modern hotel, in keeping with the building’s history. Being Grade II listed, it was important for the design to be carefully considered to sympathise with the character of the existing building and the surroundings in which it lies.

This project comprised the complete restoration and refurbishment of a semi-derelict hotel and public house, along with associated bedrooms and adjacent cottage accommodation. From the earliest stages of the build, the historical features throughout the hotel had to be meticulously restored with a focus on seamlessly blending the design of the new elements into the existing older aspects. This approach allowed for the history and character of the property to be maintained whilst providing modern and comfortable accommodation for guests.

With a significant amount of the fixtures and fittings throughout the hotel purpose made by Powells Joinery, working closely with the client on all elements of the project allowed for a highly tailored fit out. The quality of finish was very high with careful repairs and renewals to the external doors and fenestration, and a diverse use of floor coverings including carpets, sisal, wood, stone, ceramics, and vinyl to add to the hotel’s luxurious ambience. The high-quality decoration throughout, including Venetian Plaster, designer wallpapers and specialist paint finishes, made this an exceptionally prestigious rebuild and renovation and was a very rewarding project to hand over to a happy client upon completion.

A Lasting Legacy

The hotel, which opened to the public this month, now boasts 22 luxury rooms together with the new fine dining Eyas Restaurant, a new kitchen, two bars, a purpose-built function room, and a meeting room/juice bar that was formed from the old stables.

Chris Paris, Director and Chief Quantity Surveyor at Powells said about the project: “Two years of commitment from an enthusiastic and focussed client, an organised project team and a dedicated array of employees and sub-contractors has led to this magnificent property being transformed above and beyond its former glory. It is a pleasure to see it restored as a working hotel, serving customers from miles around whilst also being an important part of the community too. The results are stunning and the level of attention that Lord and Lady Northampton aspire to, will ensure that this Hotel will be a success.”
