The Axium Centre, A35 Organford

An approval for standard industrial units with elevations of sheet steel profiled cladding with a face brickwork plinth had already been obtained for this site, however it was decided that an elevational design more sympathetic to the general surrounding area, and reflecting the previous use of the site, would be more appropriate.
The buildings have therefore been designed to have the basic proportions of farm out-buildings, with elevations to suggest this former use, but now converted to accommodate new employment. Materials are very traditional, consisting of either a tile or slate type roof and stock face brickwork with simple brick detailing at eaves, verge and window head level. Windows are timber with some timber boarding above.
A number of the buildings have been positioned adjacent the highway land with a 1800mm high face brick linking screen wall between to create a sense of closure, and reflect the positions of the former farm buildings on the site. Within the development the majority of the areas are laid to hard landscape and car parking. However, around the perimeter of the development a large area of managed soft landscape has been incorporated to act as a ‘buffer’ between the development and the adjoining fields.
