Plans have been unveiled for warehouses, up to 710 homes and a revamped Oasis Leisure Centre in Swindon.

Owner SevenCapital is consulting on plans for a major redevelopment of much of the site to make the regeneration of the leisure centre and its Grade II-listed 1970s dome and pool, viable.

Under the new plans the sports hall will be replaced with outdoor Multi Use Games Areas while the dome will be clad with a lightweight ‘skin’ to stop it leaking.

SevenCapital has worked with Swindon Borough Council, the Twentieth Century Society and Historic England on recovering the dome and pool.

New leisure uses are also proposed, including a new bowling alley, indoor golf, state-of-the-art gym, and new café spaces.

The proposals’ new website states: “This would ensure that the Oasis is financially sustainable for future generations.”

The homes, a mix and one and two-bedroom flats, will be in blocks of six to 10 storeys, placed throughout the site and will have up to 260 parking spaces.

SevenCapital says the proposed two commercial buildings to the north west of the site (for B8 storage and distribution uses) will create up to 630 jobs.

A public exhibition will be held at Swindon and Wiltshire Institute of Technology in North Star Avenue on Tuesday, November 26 between 1pm and 7pm.

Comments are required Wednesday, November 27.

The team on the project includes Carney Sweeney on planning, Fellows as construction consultant and The Historic Environment Consultancy.
