How Mid-Term Stays Rescued Short Term Rentals
Posted by LDG - The Creative Property Agency on 26th June 2020 -
Industries across the board have been turned upside down due to Covid-19, having to adapt and innovate in unusual circumstances, creating new trends along the way. Short term rentals industry is no different!
Despite a belief that demand must have flat-lined, our dedicated reservations team are still seeing demand, but with new requests for longer term rentals and homes for families peaking.
Once analysed, it isn’t so surprising. Whilst non-essential travel has reduced, Covid-19 hasn’t put a stop to essential travel to Central London both on a domestic or international scale. There are still those who need to visit the Capital, whether it is for work, study or medical appointments.
These stays typically require a longer term visit and, with schools closed globally due to pandemic concerns, they are bringing their families. These guests prefer a holiday home over multiple hotel rooms or suites, especially as they can take advantage of current discounted rates advertised on holiday portals such as Airbnb and Booking.com.
The impact of this is resulting in rental requests averaging 15 days over the usual 3-4 nights. We are of course continually monitoring it it will be interesting to see how the trend changes from 4th of July when the government eases the lock-down and allows non-essential travel.
Whilst demand still isn’t where it should be for this time of year, it’s positive that London is resilient and still an essential city to visit, and we’re pleased that we can cater those who are in need of a mid-term London home, whether they are working, studying or receiving medical treatment at London’s top institutions.
