Heat Pump Installer Training
Posted by ISO Energy on 24th January 2023 -
As a heating engineer, you can receive high quality training funded by Surrey County Council, on the installation and maintenance of air source heat pumps and low temperature heating system design, alongside extra content on the MCS certification and guidance on making the next step as a new heat pump installer. This training has been funded to help heating engineers make the transition to installing heat pumps and to meet the high demand for skilled heat pump installers in Surrey.
Our Courses
East Surrey College and ISO Energy are providing training over a 5-day period. The training consists of two courses:
1. Low Temperature Hot Water Heating Systems
The qualification is aimed primarily at practicing plumbers and heating engineers who already have an understanding of the fundamental requirements of central heating systems and who wish to design and install energy efficient low temperature hot water heating systems that may use heat pumps as the heat source.
2. Level 3 Award in Heat Pump Systems (non-refrigerant circuits)
This is a nationally recognised qualification in the installation and maintenance of air source heat pump systems. The qualification is recognised by the Micro-generation Certification Scheme (MCS) as an acceptable qualification to join one of their respective schemes. Units covered include:
- M/650/2406 - Know the requirements to size, select, install, commission and handover heat pump systems (non-refrigerant circuits)
- R/650/2407 - Plan, prepare, install, commission, and maintain air source and ground source heat pumps (non-refrigerant circuits)
Dates and how to apply
Available course dates are:
6 - 10 February 2023
6 - 10 March 2023
To apply, simply click the APPLY NOW button below and complete the application form. When contacted, you will need to provide proof of eligibility / qualifications to finalise your application.
There is a maximum of 12 places on each course which will be allocated on a first come first served basis.
Please note: a £50 Deposit is required to hold a place on the course. This will be re-funded once you have successfully completed all elements of the program including an exit interview.
Additional financial support
In addition, you will also receive access to financial support worth at least £1000 when you have successfully completing the training by participating in two research interviews over the phone.
The UK's innovation foundation Nesta is working with Surrey County Council to test different mechanisms of financial support to understand what will help get newly trained installers working on heat pumps quickly. Some financial support will be dependent on the number of heat pumps installed.
More information on the financial support trainees will receive as part of the research will be given to participants during the training.
