’Woah. Have you seen the number of job application we have received!?’’
This line is said in our office pretty much daily at the moment and I’m sure we aren’t the only recruitment firm seeing huge applications for vacancies. Especially as so many people in the UK have lost their jobs due to the circumstances this year.
We completely understand that this cannot be an easy time for anyone. The anxiety and stress people will be going through and fear of the knock-on effects of redundancies and not being able to put food on the table.
The following stats come from mentalhealth.org.uk
- Almost one in five (19 per cent) of UK adults feeling hopeless
- More than one-quarter (27 per cent) of unemployed people feeling hopeless
- Almost one-third (32 per cent) of young adults aged 18-24 feeling hopeless
- Almost one-third (31 per cent) of people with pre-existing mental health conditions feeling hopeless
- At same time, level of anxiety and worry falls among UK adults overall
Almost one in five UK adults surveyed felt hopeless because of the pandemic during the first half of June, according to new research.
The data are published as part of a major longitudinal study called Coronavirus: Mental Health and the Pandemic, led by the Mental Health Foundation in partnership with the Universities of Cambridge, Swansea, Strathclyde and Queen’s University Belfast.
As recruiters it is our job to help as many people as we can to find their next dream job and we wish we could help everyone and personally advise people how best to find their new role. But the reality is that we are receiving in excess of 300 applications for some of our vacancies and at times over 500 applications!
Nicola was walking her dog at 8pm on Wednesday going through our job applications inbox and then did the same at 6am on Thursday morning as we were flooded with job applications. Jowan Will and Jake have been discussing applicants that they have spoken to on our work WhatsApp group chat at 10pm most nights this week and taking calls and responding to emails much into the evening.
Each application we receive is personally read and dealt with by one of the team, regardless if they are suitable or not for that specific role. So don’t think it’s an automated process, we only want what’s best for you and the client, just expect that we can reply at all hours of the day!
We really do work around the clock and we strive at providing the best applicants for our clients and the best advice. Its very easy to get lost in emails, so feel free to pick up the phone and have a chat with any of us at any time.
Knock backs are tough and we know it can be demoralising, but all we can say is keep going and there will be that role out there for you!
