1,000 More Homes and School Set to go Ahead at Northstowe

Councillors at South Cambridgeshire District Council have given outline planning permission for 1,000 more homes and a primary school at Northstowe new town.
The homes come as part of phase 3B of the scheme, to be developed by Homes England, despite some councillors objecting over flooding fears in a neighbouring village Swavesey, where up to 200 homes are at risk.
The phase will also include a primary school and ‘mixed-use zone’, including retail, leisure and employment spaces.
Phase 3B spans a 116-acre plot of land, and will include 400 affordable homes of mixed tenure, including affordable rent, shared ownership, discounted market sale and rent to buy.
Once complete, the new town is set to have up to 10,000 homes, with a population of 24,000.
Lead cabinet member for planning policy and delivery, Tumi Hawkins, said: “The committee recognised the ongoing concerns locally about drainage matters, but having agreed adjustments to the planning conditions, were satisfied that the development should proceed.”
Upon voting, seven councillors were in favour, two were against and there was one abstention.
Further applications will need to be submitted before full planning permission is granted. This is the final phase to have recieved consent so far.
